Credit Suisse in Switzerland
As a global bank, Credit Suisse conducts an ever increasing volume of business for international clients. However, Switzerland remains of key importance as its domestic market, the location of its headquarters and the workplace of over 20,000 of its employees.
Region Switzerland remains of key importance to Credit Suisse. Our bank has a total of 216 branches in almost 200 towns and communities across Switzerland; we have over two million clients, of which around 100,000 are corporate clients (every third company is therefore a client of Credit Suisse; most of these are SMEs). In Switzerland, we manage around CHF 650 billion of assets on behalf of private and institutional clients, as well as a credit portfolio worth around CHF 140 billion (as of 31.12.2007). Our Swiss domestic market accounts for over 40% of our total profits.
Work
With over 20,000 employees, Credit Suisse is one of the largest employers in Switzerland. We employ an above-average number of highly qualified professionals and offer our employees a wide range of opportunities in all areas of banking across all continents. In addition, we have over 600 apprentices and provide almost 600 internships for students as well as high school and university graduates.
Purchasing
We are one of the largest purchasers in the Swiss domestic market. A total of 16,000 suppliers – mainly comprising SMEs but also including the Swiss branches of several international companies – provide us with goods, services and licenses worth a total of around CHF 2.1 billion annually.
Tax
Credit Suisse is also one of the largest taxpayers in Switzerland. In 2007, the bank and its employees paid more than CHF 1.4 billion in corporate tax and income tax to the federal, cantonal and communal tax authorities.
